Winning what you want may cost you everything you love.

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

whyimwaiting

1. I’m currently reading The Shadow Society, another young adult novel by Marie Rutroski. I’m enjoying the writing style and would love to read more from this author. I especially love how she seems to have endless ideas regarding all sorts of paranormal creatures and engaging plots. What I mean is, her novels seem quite unique to me, in terms of the ideas presented.

2. The synopsis of The Winner’s Curse makes it sound very, very intriguing. And I love that. Of course I would be interested in girls needing to join the military (or they’ll be forced to marry!), slaves for auction (this part of the synopsis just called to me) and forbidden rooooomance. I want.

3. The novel has received lots of four and five star reviews from bloggers and reviewers who’ve gotten advanced copies. There’s lots of enthusiastic-sounding praise such as:

  • “Amazeballs.” –Kat Kennedy’s review
  • “And then my feels all went and ‘sploded all over the place.” – Steph Sinclair’s review

4. That gorgeous cover–who can resist it? The photo is gorgeous. The font, colors and sizes are proportional and pleasing to the eyes. I want that on my shelf!

What are you waiting on this week?
