Racial Diversity Survey

Hello, readers! I hope you’re having a lovely morning/noon/afternoon/evening/night!

Today, I’m conducting a quick survey on racial diversity in books–I really hope you do consider answering it. It’ll only take about three minutes!

THE WHY

The answer to this question is… school. *insert angry emoji here* Basically we have to write an essay that’s relevant to society *angry emoji* (I originally wanted to write about unicorns. Dammit) on any topic of our choice, and lo and behold, I ended up choosing racial diversity in books.

It’s a topic I’m really interested in. But, you know, unicorns would’ve made my essay ten times more awesome.

Anyway, for this essay, my research question is:

Does reading about main characters with diverse racial identities affect the way readers see themselves and others?

And I’m legitimately curious about this. Personally, I say yes, it does, but I want to know the opinion of the general public, hence the survey.

(And if you can get your friends and family to answer the survey too, that would be awesome.)

ALSO: By “books,” I mean fictional books in general, for all age groups, regardless of where the books were published.

THE WHAT

Thanks so much for answering! Also, let me know if you want me to publicize the results (except for your full names, of course).

  1. This is super interesting! Good luck with the report! I have to do a main project for my A/Levels too, and I am actually planning to do something similar, but I am thinking of including every aspect that comes under diversity. I didn’t think about asking for bloggers’ contribution, but it looks like a terrific idea!

  2. Good luck on your essay, I completed the survey. I would be alright with you publicizing the results. I’m thinking percentages or something like that? Like, 40% said yes, depends on…, you know? Good luck!!!
