Blogging UnicornThank you to the lovely Cait @ Paper Fury (check out her post here!) for tagging me to do the Secret Life of a Book Blogger tag!

For this tag, I’m just going to be answering some book blog-related questions! ;)

LET’S DO THIS. *cracks knuckles*

1. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A BLOGGER?

I’ve technically been blogging since May 2013 when Deadly Darlings was born, but then I stopped for a while and picked things up in October of that year.

I joined The Social Potato family back in December 2013, when I still used Christie as an alias. Good times, good times.

Then I officially became a Book Geek last July! Huzzah!

2. AT WHAT POINT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL STOP BLOGGING?

IS THIS A TRICK QUESTION!? It’s a trick question. BRAIN ERROR!

On a more serious note, I honestly didn’t think I’d last a year. When I get obsessed with a new hobby, I get obsessed. But after a while I end up moving on to something else.

If I’m going to answer this question based on my current feelings, I’d like to say I’ll continue shoving books down all your throats TIL THE END OF TIME. Bwahaha!

3. WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING?

ALL THE THINGS MOST OF THE THINGS! But particularly:

  • Writing reviews! It may sound boring and somewhat tedious, but I just want to sing and shout to the Heavens once I finally get all my feelings off my chest. Yes, I’m that kind of person.
  • Being heard. I’m very opinionated, okay?!
  • Making friends. BECAUSE DUH I LOVE YOU ALL PLEASE MARRY ME.
  • Having such a great support system. I swear everyone in the book community’s made up of kittens and sunshine. It’s way easier to rant if you know there are people who will agree with you and virtually punch the suckers giving you a hard time in real life. :’) I’m slightly exaggerating, but you get the point!
  • Seeing a diverse rage of opinions. I see Person A adoring this book that Person B hates with a burning passion. I see all sides of the story, and that makes it easier for me to pick which books to read.
  • Talking to authors. THEY’RE LIKE SUPERMODELS IN THIS COMMUNITY. And when an author replies to my emails or tweets…

4. WHAT IS THE WORST THING? WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE IT OKAY?

Mainly I’m just sad about all the blogger drama–subtweeting, ARC envy, being clique-y… Yeah. That’s something that happens within every community, though, right? And it doesn’t happen to everyone! Every now and then, there are just a few zombies who try to infect us mortals but fail because I’m a unicorn and I can save you. Yeah, that last time I said I was a unicorn? I meant I was a unicorn.

Seriously though, someone should cut off my fingers. I shouldn’t be allowed to write. My weirdness is probably creepying you out.

5. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO CREATE/FIND PICTURES TO USE?

Foreverrrrr. Sometimes I take my own photos on my phone, then I have to transfer them to my laptop, crop, edit a bit, add words… It takes time. And then I have to send them back to my phone to post on Instagram!

But occasionally I just get free high resolution images from the web. Editing = still takes forever. You guys don’t know the struggle of picking fonts!

6. WHO IS YOUR BOOK CRUSH?

DO YOU EVEN HAVE TO ASK!?

sources: x, x

8. WHAT DO YOU WEAR WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR BLOG POSTS?

… Clothes. No, really. I’m usually either in my school uniform (because who has time for changing?!) or a shirt and shorts. The Philippines is a warm place, okay?

9. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO PREPARE?

Psh. Who needs to prepare?? Well if “preparing” means taking out my laptop, setting it on the table and turning it on… Give or take two minutes. My movements are painfully slow. I’m not even kidding.

Sometimes I need to take out a Chuckie from the frige. Takes about a minute extra.

10. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE BOOK BLOGGER COMMUNITY?

No explanation needed. ;) Anyway, I answered this question seriously already. (See question #3!)

11. WHAT DO YOU THINK ONE SHOULD DO TO GET A SUCCESSFUL BLOG?

See, sometimes I’m actually half-decent and give out little tidbits of advice. ;D

  1. Oh, I am tagged! Something to do, something to do. *brain works*

I love the advice that you shared at the end, Definitely something to take to heart. And preparations to do posts takes a TON of time! Rechecking everything just to make sure we’re not sharing anything freaky to the world.

    Thanks for the tag!

  2. Font searching, yes. Always a struggle.

Lovely prose though and don’t be afraid of your weirdness leaking out of your answers. Also, I think Unicorns are lovely :D

  3. I love this post MORE THAN WORDS!! You’re so adorable, I love your answers. These types of posts are so awesome. I feel like I get to know my bloggy friends so much better through them. I’m glad you didn’t stop blogging after only a year. <3 The blogging drama is something I could definitely do without. I've been blogging for over 5 years, and it never used to be like this so it definitely makes me sad. And I love your advice. Especially about being the black sheep. When I was younger I was always worried about having a different opinion from others. Like that somehow meant my opinion was wrong. Since I've grown, I know embrace my blacksheepness and go with it! I love having people comment on my reviews for books that I love, telling me how much they hated it… or vice versa. It's so interesting to see two people read the exact same book, yet feel so differently about it.

    Great post, Aimee!!! <3

  4. I’m a unicorn too, but most people don’t know it, unfortunately! ;D I love your answers so much and YES, Percy Jackson is SO FREAKING PERFECT I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. Your book blog advice is also fantastic by the way! ;D

  5. Yes, a book tag! I was actually going to ask if there were any going around so I could do one. :D Great answers! I agree 100% with EVERYTHING. And… I think unicorns are starting to get more common with each day that passes. More humans are deciding to be unicorns rather than humans. Not that I blame them. xD

  6. I LOVE YOUR TWEETS OF ADVICE. And I believe you are a fabulous unicorn. I DO NOT DOUBT YOU, I DO NOT. I actually don’t (luckily!) see much of the drama over blogging or the subtweets, so either I hang in the completely positive circles or I’m ABSOLUTELY BLIND. ahaha. I think it’s the latter, tbh. xD And authors are like supermodel celebrities fdjsaklfda I FANGIRL A WILD AMOUNT I DO. AND NO REGRETS.
Yaaay, I’m so glad you did this one! :D

  7. PERCY JACKSON IS MY BOOK CRUSH TOO! He’s been so since I first read the PJ series since, like, FOREVER ago. I could fight you for him… but I won’t… because I love you :D

  8. Love this! I’m the same way about hobbies, which is why I’m surprised I’ve stuck with blogging for as long as I have.

  9. YES! PERCY JACKSON FOREVER!!

And I was like you when I first started…didn’t think I’d last a year. And then, when I did, I was like, this is the longest I have stuck with any hobby, and I’m still here.
Honestly? I’m still kind of expecting a day where I just stop blogging. I don’t want to, but that’s usually what happens when I do stuff like this. One day I just stop and I never get around to it again.
    Hopefully, that won’t happen.

And whenever an author favourites/replies to a tweet, I let out a little scream of excitement, and I’m grinning like a maniac for the rest of the day.

Arg, I always take foreeeeeever to find the right pic/gif for my posts. I also know your pain about taking pictures on your phone than transferring, and back again… sigh. haha.
    Yay to making friends!!!
    Great post, Aimee!

  12. You are actually the cutest, my darling sparkly unicorn *squishes you* I am glad to be out of the loop in terms of blogging drama, obviously I hang in the best circles, like at the Potato Cave ;) I am usually SUPER flakey when it comes to my hobby as well, but I have fingers crossed that I’ll keep blogging for a longer while yet!

  13. YES! Person A loves a book and Person B hates it, and you follow both and trust both people’s opinions and then you’re like, WHAT DO I DO. Exactly. But everyone in the community is made up of kittens and sunshine, at least all the bloggers and readers I’ve met. Also, you’re the first UNICORN I’ve met, so you’re additionally made up of sparkles and rainbows. :D

  14. Well, I would agree your fingers should be chopped to save us from the terrifyingly wonderful Deadly Darlings posts, but then you’re a unicorn … do unicorns have fingers? Hmm. Hmmmmm. Anyhow, totally agreed on the point of having a great support system — I feel like I’m more certain of the support of book bloggers if I reach out with a DM than if I Whatsapped my friends. We just pour all our love here and it’s wonderful. Your Twitter advice is fabulous!
