Let it be known that the men who don’t want to get attached trope has never worked for me before. Call me shallow, but I thought that since this book was going to be turned into a movie, that it would just have that special umph! that this trope so desperately needs.

And now that I’ve finished the book, I can hear the book gods laughing at me, pointing fingers and snorting. Thanks for the warning, y’all.

The synopsis actually leads you to think that this book will have a slow-burn romance. Well, fuck you, synopsis. Tate becomes creepily obsessed with Miles almost immediately, and I just wanted to rip her eyeballs out of her face. How can this not creep you out:

If I had a superpower, it would be infiltration. I would infiltrate his mind so I could see every single one of his thoughts.

I would infiltrate his heart and spread myself around like a virus.

I would call myself the Infiltrator.

Other than her pro creep status, Tate also deserves the award of being deemed a doormat. One of those fluffy ones that you just want to step on. At first, we’re told (yes, told. Not shown) that Tate is a headstrong and passionate girl who is putting her career in front of romantic relationships. Well clearly, that was before she met “V” Miles. And then Creeper Tate was born.

I have no idea what Tate sees in Miles. He’s not manipulative and is quite honest actually, but that’s where his list of redeemable qualities ends. Because as a whole, Miles is a fucking asshole. A very unrealistic asshole who is just as creepy as Tate. Behold, Miles’ creepiness:

Rachel.
You’re gonna fall in love with me, Rachel.
{…}
She’s gonna have all my babies.

By the way, Rachel is Miles’ ex. Miles’ chapters were so incredibly hard to get into. They’re written in a pseudo–poetic manner that was probably meant to show us how broken Miles was. It honestly felt like regular prose, but with bold letters, centered paragraphs and cut sentences. With stalker-y thoughts.

Now that I’ve expressed how much I hated these two individually, let’s talk about how even worse they were together. Their relationship was destructive, misleading and disrespectful. I am not okay with the way Tate just let Miles step all over her heart repeatedly. Like that time when he said another girl’s name when they were having sex, and Tate just let him keep going. WHAT THE FUCK? /ninja flips book/

Overall, I’d recommend this only to fans of other popular new adult titles. Otherwise, stay the fuck away.
