When you’re in love with the wrong person for the right reasons, anything could happen.

Tretch lives in a very small town where everybody’s in everybody else’s business. Which makes it hard for him to be in love with his straight best friend. For his part, Matt is completely oblivious to the way Tretch feels – and Tretch can’t tell whether that makes it better or worse.

The problem with living a lie is that the lie can slowly become your life. For Tretch, the problem isn’t just with Matt. His family has no idea who he really is and what he’s really thinking. The girl at the local bookstore has no clue how off-base her crush on him is. And the guy at school who’s a thorn in Tretch’s side doesn’t realize how close to the truth he’s hitting.

Tretch has spent a lot of time dancing alone in his room, but now he’s got to step outside his comfort zone and into the wider world. Because like love, a true self can rarely be contained.

1. This book is about a gay narrator who sounds super cute and lovable.. Hooray for diversity!

2. The narrator has a crush on his best friend. Y’all know how I feel about best friend romances. I live for them.

3. Out of its 74 ratings so far, almost half of them are 5 star ratings. The average rating for this is 4.11.

4. Adam Silvera loved it. Kristen enjoyed it as well.

5. The guy on the cover is adorable.

About Aimee

Aimee loves being a little bookworm (okay–she doesn’t like being little). She also loves chocolates and sweets but is freaked out by the thought of possibly getting diabetes.

  1. I hadn’t heard of this book but was hooked with that first sentence in the synopsis…and that cover. ;)

  2. Just added this to my tbr list on Goodreads. It sounds like something I’d very much enjoy. I’ve only just recently started reading LGBT stuff but I’ve really liked what I’ve read so far! Thanks for the tip!

  3. I have an ARC of this, and hopefully I can get my review up soon. I haven’t even started it yet because I’m sooo behind, but I’m hoping that I love it because it does sound amazing!

  4. I love the first sentence, the title and the cover. The rest of the synopsis… not so much. Let’s just say I’m not a fan of romances. My brain is very overflowed with those books. o_o

Hope you enjoy it, Aimee! :)

    1. Cute cover models can be really convincing. ;) But yes, best friend romances are the best, and I’m loving all these LGBT romances this year. :)

  5. I have to agree with you Aimee, I really do like the sound of this book, like you I love my best friend romances and I’m always a sucker for a pretty cover, and when I set my eyes on this one I was immediately drawn to it, so thanks for putting it on my radar!

  6. YES NUMBER FIVE IS TRULY SO VERY CORRECT. YOU EXPLAIN ALL OF MY FEELS, AIMEE! I fell in love with this cover and premise from the first look of it. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to snag a copy at BEA next week! HIGH RATINGS on Goodreads always stun me, hah. Lovely pick!

  7. You are so right, Aimee! It sounds like an amazing read, both because Matt is not being true to himself and his feelings, and because of the small town where everybody else wants / needs to know what other people are up to all the time. Adding to my TBR :)
