Must Read Titles is another feature on Deadly Darlings where we share new releases that you just have to read! Posts come thrice a year.

So I wanted another chance to push you guys to read some of the books I read and loved. I’ve also thrown in some books I haven’t read (or have read and didn’t like) that you might want to check out because of the hype surrounding them. And without further ado, here are the January to April books that you need to add to your shelves! (Arranged by date released.)

I loved it

  1. Pretty much every book you’ve posted here is on my mile-long TBR list. :P Especially The Girl at Midnight and An Ember in the Ashes — both of which I am dying to get my hands on a copy of. Looking at this I’ve just realized I don’t think I’ve read many 2015 releases. (Hey, I’m still catching up on last year’s books. :P) But my favourite, I think — so far, anyway — has to be THE DARKEST PART OF THE FOREST by Holly Black. It was one of those novels which was just EXACTLY what I love to read about.

    1. Me too! I went to our local bookstore yesterday and they didn’t have them yet… Maybe this Sunday. xD

Ah, so glad you enjoyed that one! I’ve been meaning to read it, but I tried Holly’s Coldest Girl in Coldtown and DNFed it, so I’m kinda scared now. o_o

    1. That’s awesome! When Joss Met Matt is an underrated title, IMO. It needs to be checked out. ;) Written in the Stars is a gorgeous read as well!

  2. Nearly ALL of these books have been in my TBR for ages. The only thing I’ve read here was Red Queen, lol. I definitely want to read Written in the Stars and Things We Know by Heart and etc etc (basically, I want to read nearly everything here). Great post!!! I can’t believe there are people I know who’ve read almost everything here! LIKE HOW?! It’s not even easy for me to gain access to them, lol :P

    1. Ha, I know how you feel! My TBR is looooong. D; I didn’t love Red Queen myself, but hey, lot’s of other readers are adoring it! I FEEL YOU. Some people are reading machines–and have access to fabulous bookstores. xD

  3. MOST of these books are in my TBR list and I haven’t even read a single one of them. I swear, I honestly think I live under a rock or something. Haha. My next read might be Red Queen since I’ve got a paperback of it, but I’m kind of wary since it’s got mixed reviews. Great post, btw. These books don’t just sound awesome, the covers are also gorgeous! ;D

  4. Oh this is a really interesting like and I have only read All the Bright Places from it xD I did love it though. I need to read Ember to see what’s all this fuss about. Also Glass told me that I must read The Darkest Part of the Forest and I look forward to it. Great post, Aimee :)

  5. YESSS I love this post, so many amazing books and books I have to read all in one place! DEFINITELY SIMON AND ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES. And I can see so many more books that are diverse now which makes me super happy! I can’t wait to read An Ember in the Ashes, None of the Above and Black Iris.

    1. Woohoo! Thanks, Jeann! SIMON WAS SOOOOO GOOD. _< I have to read both Ember and Black Iris too. None of the Above was such a good book!

  6. Oooo Magonia, I’m excited for that one Aimee! I have a feeling I’m going to be a fan of Jason, but I promise not to attempt to steal him from you. Maybe. Possibly. Okay, “promise” might be a bit of a strong word ;-) I loved The Orphan Queen as well despite that brutal ending and I can’t wait to read An Ember in the Ashes. I’m a little worried about all the hype, but hopefully it works as well for me as it seems to be for everyone else!

    Like

    1. You should be excited, Jenny! ;) And don’t worry, I already locked Jason up in a cage. Bwahaha! Maybe I’ll wait for the Orphan Queen sequel to come out before reading then. ;) I’m scared and excited for Ember as well!

  7. Oh, Black Iris and I did not get along. I blame the hype machine, partly. But I do want to get my hands on The Darkest Part of the Forest. It sounds so amazing.

  8. Yikes. Me and Awakening are just not friends. Definitely looking up When Joss Met Matt now! The amount of crap you have to sift through to get to a good NA is just. Ugh. And I am definitely super excited for Written in the Stars, so I hope I love it as much as you! I wish I had some recommendations, haha. Unfortunately I’ve just been reading the same stuff as everyone else, basically.

    1. So sorry to hear you didn’t like Awakening! When Joss Met Matt is definitely more for a specific kind of reader, but if you’re okay with a few cliches, then definitely give it a shot! Written in the Stars was so good. <3 Haha, the hype is crazy these days–makes sense that you'd get sucked in. ;)

    1. Haha, same here! I’ve read from her as Victoria Schwab (AKA her YA stuff), but I haven’t read anything by her as VE (her adult stuff).

    1. Both are on my must-read lists, Tabitha! I loved Magonia myself. I’m hearing not-so-great things about The Girl at Midnight though.

  12. You have so many recommendations, I wanna cry (from happiness and for feeling like a loser because I haven’t been reading much). I’ve never read a bad review of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda so I’m confident I’ll enjoy it. Now I just need to find a copy…

    1. Bahaha. I knew you couldn’t stay away. ;) Simon was just soooo good, and I really hope you love it. :) I haven’t seen a copy locally yet either!

  13. YES to All The Rage, Things We Know by Heart and Magonia! Seriously amazing books. The first one really punches you in the gut and makes you go She-Hulk, the second will give you the warm fuzzies, and the third will simply make you look at the world in a new wonder and awe, as if there are many other fantastic possibilities out there. Amazing post, Aimee!

2015 release recommends = In Search of Sam by Kristin Butcher (for those needed just a plain old good book without the romance and/or fantastical elements to distract them)

  18. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED An Ember In The Ashes!! It’s one of my favorites of the year so far. I’ve also read The Girl At Midnight and Magonia but they didn’t appeal to me that much. I’d recommend Sarah J. Maas’ A Court Of Thorns And Roses. It just came out today and I loved it as much as Ember!

    1. Yay, so glad to hear that! Sorry you didn’t like Magonia. :( The Girl at Midnight seems to be getting mixed reviews. And I would totally add ACOTAR, but it’s already a May title, so I’ll have that in my second Must Read Titles post sometime in August/September. :)

  19. Simon!! This book will make ALL THE LISTS for my end of the year stuff haha.
I still need to read The Orphan Queen – I plan on getting to it this month.
Thanks for this great recap, Aimee! :)
