Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.

Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood.

The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows—everyone knows—that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia, all the things Agnieszka isn’t, and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her.

But Agnieszka fears the wrong things. For when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he will choose.

1. The art on the cover is epic. I’m loving the 3D look of the objects in the windows–the girl, the bird, the dragons–so gorgeous.

2. WIZARDS, Y’ALL. WIZARDS.

3. 5 out of 6 of my Goodreads friends who have already read this gave it five stars. And the other one was a four star rating. Come on, I trust these people!

4. Said Goodreads friends added this book to their fabulous shelves: “creeptastic” (creepy is so my thing) by Jessica, “fictional man of my dreams” (SO YAY THERE’S ROMANCE) by Cristina and “so good it hurts” (omg stop taunting me) by Tabitha.

5. Rachel Hartman loved it.

Thoughts on my pick? What are you waiting on this week?

About Aimee

Aimee loves being a little bookworm (okay–she doesn’t like being little). She also loves chocolates and sweets but is freaked out by the thought of possibly getting diabetes.

  1. I can see why you’re waiting for this one! Especially the blogger examples you gave because they are all so awesome and yes, I’m intrigued by this now…a creepy book with a great romance that’s so good it hurts? I’m checking this out now! Thanks for sharing Aimee! :)

  2. I’m currently reading this one, although it’s been a while since I last continued where I left off… it definitely is atmospheric and gives off that beauty and the beast vibe, but damn it is wordy, like, hecka wordy, and sometimes goes on and on in circles. I was buddy-reading it with Pili and even she took a break from it! LOL But I will continue! It has a good story and great characters, just really… dense.

  3. THIS BOOK. Is straight-up amazeballs. STRAIGHT-UP, Aimee! The whole thing is absolutely delicious, but the last 10(ish)% . . . everything that made it awesome x100. That never happens. The last 10% can sometimes save a MEH book, but an already amazing book having a last 10% that’s OMFG?! Seriously . . . best new book I’ve read in years. GREAT PICK ;)

  4. This was my pick this week as well! I love the premise of this one, I like the cover too although, it’s a bit creepy, I wish it would release already. Thank you for sharing :)

  5. Oh! I hadn’t heard of this one until right now, but I’m not much of a fantasy reader… I try, but I’m just really picky about the genre.

I hope you enjoy this one, and if you do, I might just have to add it to my TBR. :)

  6. I didn’t hear a thing about this till now whut 0_o It sounds so awesome plus the characters on the cover look like people from a video game ha that’s very good designing *hats off to the design team* Definitely adding this to my “gandalfs homies” shelf on GR :D

  7. I have a lot of bookish friends who loved this, too! They’ve basically all raved about it haha. I don’t know too much about it because I haven’t really looked into it but just from the praise I’ve heard — and who I’ve heard it from — I know it’ll probably be a “me” book. :D

Haha I love peoples’ Goodreads shelves! I used to have shelves like that, but I’m way too picky about my organization so I just don’t anymore. :P

    1. Yes, everybody has been raving about it! <3 It sounds like a "me" book for me too, definitely. ;)
Ha, some people have the best shelves! I still keep mine like those, despite being slightly OCD. ;)

    1. I actually just requested it, and I got it too! :) I like the other one better… from afar. But close up, this one is more intricate, I’d like to say.

  8. The really good thing about the WoW theme is that it actually makes me focus on how to spell Wednesday, which is seriously a difficult word to wrap one’s keyboard around. But anyway-
This sounds really neat. I first heard about it a few weeks back but didn’t think I’d put it on my tbr, but I really liked your list of reasons why you’re excited for it, Aimee, so I am absolutely going to add it to my tbr, and I’ll keep an eye out for your review of it! Hope it’s fantastic. Though, I mean, with that cover, which is so neat (look at the books! They’re flying!) it’s sure to be. Fantastic choice. Xx
