Darling Press

Darling press is Deadly Darlings’ weekly recap meme. We link to Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, Bought Borrowed Bagged hosted by Talk Supe Blog, and The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer.

So we’re back to sort-of doing Stacking the Shelves posts! But we’ll also be adding life tidbits and sharing posts from the blogosphere. Since I haven’t done this in forever, these are books I got sometime within this month.

Life

Nothing much went on this week. I was supposed to get my tooth extracted, but my dentist was busy so we had to reschedule (without telling me earlier). Also, my mom and I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron, and I had to agree with her when she told me that Captain America was handsome. Oddly enough, that crazy woman managed to fall asleep watching such a fabulous movie.

Blood, Ink & Fire by Ashley Mansour | Crow’s Rest by Angelica R. Jackson | A History of Glitter and Blood by Hannah Moskowitz

I’m extremely excited for What You Left Behind! It’ll be my first Jessica Verdi book. I also requested the The Awesome by Eva Darrows because the synopsis was hilarious. Blood, Ink and Fire looks gorgeous and I’m excited to be a part of the wonderful street team for this book. Crow’s Rest sounds creepy and right up my alley. A History of Glitter and Blood features FAIRIES. The rest are unsolicited review copies but look equally fantastic!

Thanks so much to Sourcebooks, Ravenstone/Rebellion Publishing, Merit Press, Ashley Mansour and Spencer Hill Press for these lovelies!

BOUGHT

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Ugly Love was a spur-of-the-moment purchase for me. I already read it and didn’t love it, but you can find my general thoughts here. Full review soon!

  1. I honestly am in awe at your books. And they’re all unsolicited. JEALOUSSSSSSS.

I hope you had a great time in Japan and going to HP world. Your post on that was fabulous <33 And thank you SO MUCH for mentioning my post haha.

A History of Glitter and blood sounds amazing. And I love that cover.

  2. Your post layouts always slay me Aimee (in the best possible way of course)

    Ahhh dentists! I detest going to the dentist, though I do have an appointment soon. I have to get my wisdom teeth removed :o ahhhhh. I’m so jealous that the new Avengers movie is out where you live already. I have to wait a bit longer. I’m so excited for it, and have high hopes. Really anything Marvel is amazing. I also must applaud your mother, she has brilliant taste [;

So many books! And one not even on goodreads yet, I think that speaks to your luck girl haha. The Awesome has an undeniably brilliant cover and your review has convinced me to check it out despite your issues. I mean the summary is just so alluring. That humor though isn’t my thing, I’m all for dry humor but like when it’s overabundant?? Lameee. I also received A History of Glitter and Blood !!! FAIRIES EEE. It could be a possible buddy read?? I’m down if you are.

    Lovely recap girly <33

    1. Thanks so much, girl! ;)
Ahhh I have to get teeth extracted too. D: I’ve already tried it once, and I do not want to do it again. :( I HOPE YOU ENJOY AVENGERS! So badass. :D
The Awesome is a love/hate kind of book, and hopefully if you give it a shot you’ll love it more. ;D YES I AM SO GAME. ;) Will talk to you about it on Twitter! <33

  3. So many books (and admittedly, I hadn’t heard of any of them before), but I just looked up Jessica Verdi and I might check out one of her novels one day. Sad to hear you didn’t like Ugly Love, I had my reservations about it just from the sound of the synopsis – I guess I’ll be going for another Colleen Hoover book (I have a copy of ‘Hopeless’ so that seems like it should be better). Thanks for sharing Aimee, hope you have a lovely week :)

    1. I’m excited for Jessica Verdi’s book. It could just be that it seems like I hate all the CoHo books I’ve read. My ex co-blogger hated Hopeless. D: Slammed seems to be her most popular work!
      Thank you, Eugenia! :D

  4. Oooh, look at the pretty pile of review copies! Shame you didn’t like Ugly Love — though I can completely understand why. Funnily enough it was the first Colleen Hoover book I read and actually enjoyed. Better luck with your next read! ^_^

    1. Ha, but I’m still going to have to go at some point. D: I have to get four teeth out, and so far I’ve only done one. >_<
      Right?! She's insane. xD

  5. Oooh lovely haul Aimee! I actually haven’t heard of any of those books! Except Ugly Love which I also bought!
Your mum fell asleep during Age of Ultron? WOW LOL. I’d heard some people say it was boring/not as good as Avengers 1 though :o
    Happy reading.

    1. Thanks, Jaz! Did you already read Ugly Love?
I honestly can’t remember too much about Avengers 1, but I enjoyed this movie. ;) Maybe because it’s been forever since I saw a movie. >_<

  6. Thanks so much for sharing my post! What You Left Behind looks SOOOO good. I really want to read it, and am only mildly bitter that they declined me ;) And it is really funny, because Holly and I were JUST talking about Hanging Mary- like, 5 minutes before I came here to read your post! And History of Glitter and Blood looks good too, I am excited to read that!

Sorry about the dentist, that does NOT sound fun. I went to the dentist yesterday, but luckily only for a cleaning. Tell the dentist he needs to give you ALL the pain meds, that we said so ;)

    1. No problem, Shannon! Aw, maybe you’ll have more luck with a physical copy request? ;) But Nori’s totally going to kill you, haha!
I haven’t heard of Hanging Mary before getting it, actually. :O
YES THEY DO. The first time, I felt nothing during the operation but the days after were crazy!

  7. I’m looooving those titles! A History of GLITTER AND BLOOD?!! *runs to goodreads like a headless hooligan* I hope it’s as awesome as it sounds. x) The tooth extraction sounds horrendous. I have a huge phobia of dentists and I plan to never venture near one for the rest of my life (HHAAH. probably not. But I can dream, right?!) I didn’t see Age Of Ultron, but my sister did and said it wasn’t as funny. WAH.

    1. I hope so too, Cait! ;D I HATE the dentist. But what has to be done, has to be done, sadly. :( Or else my two years of braces would’ve gone to waste. D: Personally, as long as Robert Downey Jr’s in the movie, it’s funny for me. xD

I don’t think it’s a good idea to ask for a follow for follow. If you like a blog, go ahead and follow, and don’t follow back just because someone followed you! But I’ll definitely check your blog out. Thanks!

  16. How on earth did your mom fall asleep while watching Age of Ultron? That movie was so loud that my little brother got scared in the cinema xD And look at all those books wow! So many interesting ones and “Blood, Ink and Fire”‘s cover looks glorious.

I don’t think you’re alone in disliking “Ugly Love”, it’s gotten so many bad reviews that I haven’t touched it with a 5-feet pole but I’m surprised that they’re making a movie for it? I was pretty sure they’d adapt “Slammed” first? it wasn’t a favorite of mine but the slam poetry part was so cool and imagine how emotional it would look on screen!

    1. Bahaha I know right?! She’s weird like that. ;)
Yep, they all look fabulous! I’m not sure where I stand on the Blood, Ink & Fire cover though…
Oh definitely! I completely forgot there was going to be a movie. I’m probably going to watch it just to make fun of it though. I’m a masochist like that. xD
