Antony and Cleopatra. Helen of Troy and Paris. Romeo and Juliet. And now . . . Henry and Flora.
For centuries Love and Death have chosen their players. They have set the rules, rolled the dice, and kept close, ready to influence, angling for supremacy. And Death has always won. Always.
Could there ever be one time, one place, one pair whose love would truly tip the balance?
Meet Flora Saudade, an African-American girl who dreams of becoming the next Amelia Earhart by day and sings in the smoky jazz clubs of Seattle by night. Meet Henry Bishop, born a few blocks and a million worlds away, a white boy with his future assured — a wealthy adoptive family in the midst of the Great Depression, a college scholarship, and all the opportunities in the world seemingly available to him.
The players have been chosen. The dice have been rolled. But when human beings make moves of their own, what happens next is anyone’s guess.

1. Do you see that cover? DO YOU SEE IT?! It is just filled with glorious epicness. The red hand, the red Death… MUCH INTRIGUE. Me likey.
2. There’s an African-American heroine who wants be a freaking pilot. I haven’t even met the heroine yet, and she’s already screaming, “I’m fabulous, love me!” I bet she and I will be good friends. Very good friends.
3. This takes place during the Great Depression. Hell yes I’m interested. We just learned about this time period in History class, and I am beyond excited to read a fiction story set in it!
4. “For centuries Love and Death have chosen their players. They have set the rules, rolled the dice, and kept close, ready to influence, angling for supremacy. And Death has always won. Always.” DEATH HAS ALWAYS WON AHH. Excuse me while I die in anticipation!
5. I’ve chatted with Martha a bit on Twitter, and she is such a sweetheart! I can’t wait to see what writing skills that lady has. ;)

About Aimee
Aimee loves being a little bookworm (okay–she doesn’t like being little). She also loves chocolates and sweets but is freaked out by the thought of possibly getting diabetes.
It actually sounds promising given that blurb. I wonder if this was going to end tragically hmmm. Adding this to my tbr-list now! :D

Oooo this sounds good Aimee but it also makes me nervous! I want a happy ending, and while the synopsis makes it sound like possibly Death won’t win this time, I still have stress about it ;-) I love, love, love that cover though, and am really excited to see how things turn out for this couple! *fingers crossed*

I just researched what the great depression is and it makes this book sound very interesting. Unfortunately, it also sounds kind of depressing itself… Let’s see, I’m really excited for your review!

THIS ONE IS SO HIGH ON MY WISH LIST I CAN’T EVEN.
It’s historical- 1930s setting!? Hell yes. There’s also diversity with the main character, which will undoubtedly be juxtaposed with the easier life of the love interest. The summary is also amazing at creating a hopeless atmosphere- “death always wins.” However, the end leaves me hopeful that perhaps a romance will manage to bloom AND OH MY GOD I CAN SEE MYSELF SHIPPING IT ALREADY.
This one was already on my list, however just got moved up even more [;

Someone offered me an ARC of this and I passed (*cries – I would have sent it to you*)
I tried this author’s first book and it was pretty out-there (and, to be fair, had two of my least fave elements, angels and time travel.) So while I’m open to trying this, I’m going to wait and see what a few people think first….
Hope you get to read it soon, and that you love it!

I’m so glad I stopped by! I’ve seen this cover around, and never bothered to read the synopsis! (how stupid of me!) I will be pre-ordering this book this weekend so it can be in my hands come the 28th. I mean come on, it’s been forever since I read a book with an African American heroine, AND she wants to be a pilot, AND she sings jazz, AND she falls in love with a wealthy Caucasian boy. I AM SO READY FOR THIS!
