In the Labyrinth, we had a saying: keep silent, keep still, keep safe.

In a city of walls and secrets, where only one man is supposed to possess magic, seventeen-year-old Kai struggles to keep hidden her own secret—she can manipulate the threads of time. When Kai was eight, she was found by Reev on the riverbank, and her “brother” has taken care of her ever since. Kai doesn’t know where her ability comes from—or where she came from. All that matters is that she and Reev stay together, and maybe one day move out of the freight container they call home, away from the metal walls of the Labyrinth. Kai’s only friend is Avan, the shopkeeper’s son with the scandalous reputation that both frightens and intrigues her.

Then Reev disappears. When keeping silent and safe means losing him forever, Kai vows to do whatever it takes to find him. She will leave the only home she’s ever known and risk getting caught up in a revolution centuries in the making. But to save Reev, Kai must unravel the threads of her past and face shocking truths about her brother, her friendship with Avan, and her unique power.

Recommend your book!

I would recommend my book to fans of If I Stay by Gayle Forman and Rules of Survival by Nancy Werlin.

Why will readers enjoy your book?

You guys will definitely enjoy my book because raw and driven by friendship and moments of bravery.

Apple! Now when you read that word, what’s the first YA contemporary book that comes into your mind (aside from your own)?

Simultaneous, I thought of these three (none of which are YA contemporary— so ….. I don’t know.)
Twilight. (Because of the cover.)
The Land of Silver Apples by Nancy Farmer
The Magicians Nephew by C.S. Lewis

A zombie just came into your house! What’s the first book you’d grab to chuck at its head and why?

I’m not sure I would ever chuck a book at a zombie, but … I’d probably pick a bible concordance because they are very heavy and have sharp edges.

If you were to become an inhuman being (an animal, or maybe a mythical creature), what would you be and why?

Phoenix — I love the life cycle and that there’s some magic in me—even in my tears.

Can you guess which of these facts about Lori is actually a lie?

1. Growing up, I had a goat named Sputnik.
2. For one week in college, I spoke only in song lyrics.
3. I’ve climbed the Great Wall of China twice.
Answer (highlight):#1 was totally fake!

Courtney writes by herself with the music on. But she revises and reads in silence. She used to write at Barnes and Noble. Now she writes at Percy Warner Park. And sometimes at her desk. Courtney’s favorite place to write is the beach (Fort Walton). She wrote 170 pages of Faking Normal longhand in a beach chair.

Court was awesome enough to offer a SIGNED (eep!) copy of Faking Normal to a lucky winner! A runner-up will be getting a swag pack. Both prizes are for US residents, only–sorry, INTL readers!

Have you read/added Faking Normal to your TBR? Did you guess Court’s fib correctly? Thoughts on the interview? Feeling lucky for the giveaway?

About Aimee

Aimee loves being a little bookworm (okay–she doesn’t like being little). She also loves chocolates and sweets but is freaked out by the thought of possibly getting diabetes.

  1. Speaking for the first week of college in only song lyrics must’ve been quite the challenge! And a pretty cool feat to have under your belt as well. I have heard that this is an amazing debut as well.

  2. I still haven’t read this book yet, but I’ve heard incredible things about it, so I’m really excited.

Wow. Climbing the Great Wall of China twice is impressive!

What's the juice? Spill!
