DEADLY CHRISTMAS - KATE

A Deadly Christmas is a series of 2014 debut author features (quick interviews, reviews and giveaways) hosted by Deadly Darlings. Check out the full schedule here.

For our first stop, I’d like to welcome KATE ORMAND, the author of Dark Days, a young adult dystopian book! I’ve interacted with Kate on Instagram before, and she’s such a sweetheart! I’ve also received some pretty Dark Days swag from her before. So let’s give a hand to this awesome lady! *clap clap clap*

The future world has been divided into sectors–each the same as the other. Surrounded by thick steel fences, there is no way in and no way out. Yet a cyborg army penetrates each sector, picking off its citizens one by one, until no one is left. Behind the sectors’ thick walls, the citizens wait to die. Few will be chosen to survive what’s coming; the rest will be left behind to suffer. A new world has been created, and its rulers are incredibly selective on who will become a citizen. They want only those with important roles in society to help create a more perfect future.

Sixteen-year-old Sia lives in one of the sectors as part of a family that is far too ordinary to be picked to live. According to the digital clock that towers high above her sector, she has only fifteen days to live. Sia has seen the reports and knows a horrific death is in store for her, but she is determined to make the most of her final days. Sia refuses to mourn her short life, instead promising herself that she’ll stay strong, despite being suffocated by her depressed mother and her frightened best friend. Just when Sia feels more alone than ever, she meets Mace, a mysterious boy. There is something that draws Sia to him, despite his dangerousness, and together, they join a group of rebels and embark on an epic journey to destroy the new world and its machines, and to put an end to the slaughter of innocent people.

DEADLY CHRISTMAS INTERVIEW

Recommend your book!

I would recommend my book to fans of Dualed by Elsie Chapman.

Why will readers enjoy your book?

You guys will definitely enjoy my book because it’s packed full of action scenes with ticking clock chapters!

If your main character read your book (which is, of course, about him/her), what would his/her reaction be?

Sia would probably have a few questions, like why I trapped her in a walled-in town doomed for destruction!

Do you think your main character would want to meet you? Why or why not?

I hope so! We are alike in some ways, even though she’s much braver than me. We’d definitely have a lot to talk about!

Aimee loves being a little bookworm (okay–she doesn’t like being little). She also loves chocolates and sweets but is freaked out by the thought of possibly getting diabetes.

  1. SQUEEE~ I love this ‘A Deadly Christmas’ series for debut authors of 2014! I loved it much more when the first stop was about DARK DAYS and Kate Ormand. I’ve been wanting to read DARK DAYS for so long but I haven’t got the chance yet… I’m hoping to read it very soon! Thanks for the giveaway. :)

  2. Ahh, this is such a cool bookish Christmas idea! I’ve heard of Dark Days before, but never really saw too many reviews for it, so it kinda slipped my mind. But it sounds like a cross between Divergent and The Hunger Games, which means that it’s going to be epic, right? And also, I love that the main character bears similarities to Kate herself. I feel like that always makes the protagonist more relatable, in a way, which is always a plus.

Thanks for sharing, Aimee! The swag looks fab. :D

I'm not sure if there's any similarities between Dark Days and Divergent, but I can see the Hunger Games comparison! I really hope you enjoy Dark Days! :D

  4. Oh wow, this sounds like a thrilling kind of dystopian book which might not follow the usual guidelines. I like the sound of that. I also really like the authors hairstyle :)
