The future world has been divided into sectors–each the same as the other. Surrounded by thick steel fences, there is no way in and no way out. Yet a cyborg army penetrates each sector, picking off its citizens one by one, until no one is left. Behind the sectors’ thick walls, the citizens wait to die. Few will be chosen to survive what’s coming; the rest will be left behind to suffer. A new world has been created, and its rulers are incredibly selective on who will become a citizen. They want only those with important roles in society to help create a more perfect future.

Sixteen-year-old Sia lives in one of the sectors as part of a family that is far too ordinary to be picked to live. According to the digital clock that towers high above her sector, she has only fifteen days to live. Sia has seen the reports and knows a horrific death is in store for her, but she is determined to make the most of her final days. Sia refuses to mourn her short life, instead promising herself that she’ll stay strong, despite being suffocated by her depressed mother and her frightened best friend. Just when Sia feels more alone than ever, she meets Mace, a mysterious boy. There is something that draws Sia to him, despite his dangerousness, and together, they join a group of rebels and embark on an epic journey to destroy the new world and its machines, and to put an end to the slaughter of innocent people.

REVIEW

“We can see it, but we’ll never be able to reach it. So what’s the point in looking at it and wanting it?

To be honest, I went into this hoping for a mindless, action-packed dystopian read. Well, I did get that, but it wasn’t executed the way I hoped it would. I did get the idea and I think this book has potential, but I had a lot of issues with it.

Wait… Where’s the plot again?

This book is only a whopping 250+ pages, which was mostly used up for the most irrelevant things, like the heroine fussing over her bitchy mom, pitying herself for not being able to see her best friend, and denying that she couldn’t find love in fifteen days.

OH YES–you heard me right. If the world was going to end in fifteen days, would FALLING IN LOVE be on your bucketlist? Not on mine. Maybe kissing, or doing the deed, I would understand. But falling in love? That’s a whole different thing, and I don’t see the point.

That romance… JUST NO.

I’m not sure I can explain how much the romance bothered me. Take a look at these quotes and see for yourself:

“I’ve wanted to kiss you like that since the first time I saw you.”

“I push Mace (the love interest) out of the way, and the machine catches me instead.”

I know I wouldn’t be willing to potentially kill myself to save a guy who I’ve only known for two weeks.

What’s with the extra half star?

Like I said, this book had potential. If it had been stretched out to, maybe, 450+ pages, it could have been so much better. Another good thing about the book is that it was definitely action-packed towards the end–it was kind of like watching a movie. A cheesy, stereotypical, cliche movie. But hey, it still gives you a visual of something.

  1. Aw that sucks! I haven’t read to many reviews on this book but it looks like I’m gonna try and stay away from it. “I push Mace (the love interest) out of the way, and the machine catches me instead.” Like seriously? No. LOL Awesome review though! Had me laughing the whole way through. :P

  2. LOL THOSE GIFS. Okay, I’ve never even heard of this book, but I’m wary of dystopians as it is, so I don’t think I’ll be picking this up. But isn’t there a song called Dark Days? Or something? There’s some random song in my head now and I can’t get it out.

    Hilarious review <3

  3. *sigh* It sounds like this one could have been a really good book if only you and the book were on the same page LOL. I hate that fact that for such a short book it focuses on really irrelevant plot stuff instead of the big stuff *rolls eyes* when are we going to get another GOOD Dystopian? I miss those!

  4. Oh my this is tragic but I cannot stop laughing. She really wants to find love in 55 days! How cute. I mean why!? Oh gosh. Not to mention that irrelevant things aren’t something I really wish to see in books. *le sigh* I’ll just avoid this one. Great review, Aimee :)

  5. Hahaha, hilarious GIF’s! I haven’t heard much about Dark Days, but what I have heard has been good, so I’m sorry this one didn’t work for you – I totally understand why it didn’t though!

  6. Falling in love in 14 days is quite the feat anyway. lol I always hate it when they rush for that…dude, if I was on the earth for only 2 weeks there are SO many things I’d want to do. Maybe go really fast in a really awesome car or sky dive or eat a lot of pizza. Priorities. Sucks that this one was no good. :|

  7. Argh! Just no! I don’t think 15 days are enough to fall in love with a person and worse, spending all your precious time stressing yourself about love. If I am given 15 days to live, I will instead allocate a couple of hours making some sort of a checklist wherein I will write 500 things that needs to be done before the end of the world.

I think the author has placed this book on the wrong genre. It would have been better if this one was categorized as contemporary. XD

    Fab review, Aimee!

  8. That’s a bummer. The blurb was so intriguing too! I don’t think I’ll be checking this one out because of the insta-love. And yeah falling in love in 15 days as a goal is a no no for me! I don’t know if you mean to but your reviews always make me laugh–those gifs! :D Great review and thanks for the heads up haha

  9. So yeah the book sounds like it drags on especially with the lack of plot. I mean how is that supposed to keep our interest, especially with the annoying sounding romance? I mean why would she risk her life like that. Just no. Great review though lovely!

  10. How can it be 250 pages and NOT be non-stop action? In 250 pages, I’d of thought everything would be crammed in because it’s just such a short amount of pages. Obviously not lol.

And no . . . falling in love would not. Eating lots of chocolate would be on my bucket list. Lots and lots. Also: YOU CAN’T FALL IN LOVE IN FIFTEEN DAYS.

  11. “If the world was going to end in fifteen days, would FALLING IN LOVE be on your bucketlist?” HAHA. I probably wouldn’t have that on mine as well. That would be a recipe for disaster if I ever see one. At least this was short enough, Aimee. It might have totally backfired but at least you don’t have to force yourself to finish it. Thanks for the honest review, Aimee. Hilarious! XD

  12. Perfect use of Arrested Development gif!
How unfortunate that both the plot and romance wasn’t up to snuff!
Though….I would totally put falling in love on my 15 day bucket list… I waant loooooooove ;)
    Thanks for the review!

  13. Wow, what a way to engineer in that instalove. I don’t think this would be the book for me in that case – it would really annoy me that I’d have to read her forcing herself into instalove. But you make a good point – maybe this would have been better as a film!
