I really, really hate the feeling of being confused about whether or not I liked a book, and it’s exactly how I feel about this one! There were some things that I really liked about this book, but there were some things that were so, so irritating that I wanted to stop reading!

My main problems with this book were the flow of the story, the romance, and some of the characters.

The Last Princess, compared to others, is a relatively short book. I think the action was a bit too compact—if that makes any sense—like all the action was just being forced into the book. Instead of being fast-paced and action-packed, what happened, though, was a book lacking emphasis in certain parts. In what I think was supposed to be the climax, I felt nothing. It kind of passed through it so quickly that I didn’t have time to process and connect to the scenes! Some scenes though, I felt were totally unnecessary. They just seem to pop out, out of nowhere! All in all, the plot (or writing) wasn’t smooth, and was basically all over the place.

Eliza was likeable enough. Although I felt that she was a bit naïve and sheltered at first, she grew on me towards the end. West, I felt indifferent to because he was very underdeveloped. Polly was confusing. I honestly cannot figure out how old she was. Sometimes, she acts as if she’s really, really old, but sometimes, she acts as if she’s a toddler. I swear, it’s confusing. Cornelius is a sucky villain. I didn’t get the ‘bad guy vibe’ from him.

The romance in this book was absolutely disgusting. It had no development whatsoever! It was like one minute they didn’t know each other, then the next they were sucking each other’s faces off! For a person who likes romance as much as I do, this book was one of the worst.

The writing was bland at times, but compared to others, it’s pretty okay.

Honestly, the only thing I really like about this book is the concept. The author clearly did some heavy research to make this a unique story with realistic (although not great) world-building. I loved the idea of a vigilante type princess, but it was ruined by the execution of this book.

Although there are reviews on GR praising this book, I would certainly say I would fall into the majority who hated it.

Dyan has the tendency to get irritated with most heroines. It’s just something she’s always been really over-analyzing. She tends to like the heroes/love interests more.
