I picked up this book mainly because of two things:

1. The cover was pretty (let’s face it, everyone judges books by their covers) and
2. It was a retelling.

Anyway, I bought Adam & Eve for roughly 16 dollars (a hardcover), and it was so not worth it.

Let’s start with the plot. I liked the plot–it was unique and weird, and I have no idea how the authors thought of it (it was about genetic modifications and shit, and I didn’t really understand all the sophisticated science talk). I especially liked the tag line on the cover, “And girl created boy,” mainly because I’m a feminist through and through.

The characters, on the other hand, were underdeveloped and irritating. The only character I kinda liked was Aislin, and that was just sometimes. Evening (Eve) was naïve, selfish, and just plain irritating. Solo was okay, except for the fact that he was highly bipolar (Aimee! There are more of your kind!).

The pacing was okay, although there are times when I felt like I skipped a huge chunk of the book, especially in the later half of the novel which became kind of confusing. The so-so writing made the book slightly less irritating though.

Now, to the most highly awaited part of the book (for me, anyway), the romance! (MAJOR-ISH SPOILERS AHEAD, GUYS!) I honestly expected that it will be Eve and Adam who will end up together, because it was like ON THE TITLE. So I was kinda irritated when I was proven wrong (no one likes to be wrong, so don’t judge me). Anyway, unless you are weird person who ships people in every movie/book seen/read (i.e. me), I don’t think this is book where you almost die from feels. I mean, in the first half of the book, Solo keeps on repeating stuff like he has to get rid of Eve and such (not really romantic) and Eve was like, “Who is he again?” Point is, the romance was only evident in about the last quarter of the book.

All in all, I was disappointed, I wanted to enjoy this book much more than I did. The only thing I gained from it was a pretty book to add to my shelf, and some gross mental images.
